STONEHAM — Chief Matthew Grafton reports that the Stoneham Fire Department and mutual aid partners responded to and extinguished a two-alarm house fire.
On Tuesday, March 5 at approximately 2:30 p.m., Stoneham Fire received a report of a fire at 10 Lindenwood Road. A neighbor spotted the fire, called 911 and alerted residents of the home of the blaze.
First arriving companies found heavy smoke showing from the attic area. Companies immediately stretched a hose line into the kitchen and knocked down fire there, and then went to the second floor to attack fire in the walls and the attic space.
A second alarm was struck early on to bring more manpower to the scene. Work on the second floor and attic of the home was labor intensive because firefighters had to pull open ceilings and walls to get to the fire.
The blaze was under control within about an hour. There were no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Stoneham Fire and Police Fire Investigation Unit, but it is believed to be cooking-related.
Four residents were displaced by the fire, but they are staying with family in the area.
Firefighters from Woburn, Reading, Melrose, Winchester, Wakefield, and Saugus provided mutual aid at the scene, and firefighters from Medford, Malden and North Reading covered Stoneham’s fire headquarters. Additional mutual aid was provided at the scene by Cataldo EMS and their Tango 2 rehab truck, Stoneham Police, and the Stoneham Fire Auxiliary.
“I’m grateful for all the hard work by the firefighters on scene today as well as the quick actions from a neighbor who alerted residents and helped them get out of the house,” said Chief Grafton. “The hard work and professionalism of the firefighters on duty today as well as the quick actions of the neighbor prevented this from being a much worse fire. I’m grateful this happened at 2 in the afternoon and not 2 in the morning.”
